If you requested an extension for 2008, you must file your tax return by October 15, 2009. E-file is accepted until Oct 15 each year. After Oct 15, you must mail a paper return. Amended returns are always mailed.
The IRS may accept an installment payment plan if you file form 9465. This has an IRS setup fee and interest.
To get an automatic extension, you can file form 4868 by April 15th. You must still pay your tax due by April 15th with the extension request.
If you owe taxes, write a check to the "United States Treasury". Mail your payment with form 1040-V by April 15th to:

If you get a letter from the IRS saying that you owe money for a previous year, call the 800 number on the letter to ask what it is for. Most likely, the IRS found a W-2 or 1099 that you forgot to include on your tax return, or you did not pay the amount owed in full and on time. You can simply pay the bill they gave you to clear it up, or file an amended return that may reduce the amount owed. See your tax preparer that did the return, for the year in question, to process an amended return.
The latest is that people on Social Security may get a stimulus payment sometime in 2009. This is not a tax return issue.
Previously, before Oct 15, 2008, Seniors needed to file a 2007 form 1040A or regular 1040, not the 1040-EZ to get the one time 2008 tax rebate. Enter your total income on line 20a for form 1040, or line 14a for form 1040A. Your income must be over $3,000 to get a tax rebate.
For everyone- your 2008 tax return will have a required place to report the stimulus amount you received in 2008, so keep a record. You can claim the rebate on your 2008 tax return if you did not get the proper amount in 2008. Everyone must keep a record of the amount of the tax rebate you received in 2008 and report it on your 2008 tax return. If the stimulus amount is missing or incorrect (zero is valid for some people), your 2008 tax return will be rejected by the IRS.
I am not a loan company. You should not get a large tax refund and then pay the big companies huge loan fees to get your own money. I will show you how to get more money in every pay check and not pay any loan fees. Give your Payroll dept. a new W-4 that claims more allowances to get extra tax money in each pay check. If you have kids, use that extra money to buy the Florida PrePaid Tuition plan for college, instead of giving the federal government a free loan.
Beware of tax preparers that advertise "Free" tax preparation. Ask them for their IRS e-file authorization, and county business tax receipt. I have both. The IRS e-file authorization includes a fingerprint and background check to be certified. Tax preparers are not normally required to have an IRS background check or any license. I am licensed with the Florida Department of Financial Services.
I can come to your home with our mobile tax service. If you have kids, or want the convenience, this is a way to get your taxes done professionally at home.
